Chance Colorado

Photos Mike Sinnwell October 2018

If by chance you happen upon Chance Colorado just remember it is not Last Chance Colorado. That can be found here.

Not much left to see of Chance.  One remaining cabin being maintained by someone. Even has a sky light. This was the sister city of Iris in Gunnison County.  Chance was established in 1894 the same year as Iris. It was smaller than Iris but produced more gold. It had a short life as it died in 1897. Even the mill built by A. E. Reynolds closed after only one year. It was a losing proposition as it cost more than the gold it produced.

The name was chosen for the luck of the camp. It would appear it was misnamed. Apparently, the gold veins were wide on the surface but narrowed down to little or nothing after going underground.
