Guston Colorado Townsite - Ghost town

Guston was a like many other mining camps in that it never had a real street structure but grew out of the natural terrain. People built businesses, cabins and homes wherever there was space. Sometimes on top of old mine dumps. It did have an unusual feature in that the Guston mine had a vertical chimney of solid ore. Something that rarely occurs in nature. It was this mine and the close proximity to mills that provided the growth for Guston. If we are to believe the story the mine was found on August 14th in 1882 when a prospector sat down to rest while on a hunting trip. He reach down and picked up a rock that was very heavy. When he cracked it open he saw it was almost pure galena.
