Pearce AZ  Ghost Town

Photos Courtesy Mike Sinnwell March 2011

Jimmie Pearce roamed around the Arizona territory and this town was named after he found gold near here in 1894. He had worked as a miner in Tombstone.  He and his wife finally moved and bought some ranch land.  They built a boardinghouse near the Commonwealth mine that Jimmie owned.

A post office was established in 1896. A movie theater and many businesses lined main street. The boarding house was run by his wife until the 1930’s. The Soto Brothers store is well worth the trip as are several other buildings that still stand. Including a nice jail. Seems that jails were built to stand. When they built them.

Gleeson & Pearce jails are NOW OPEN

I thought you might want to put it on the pages on your wonderful site. They are both planning on being open the first Saturday of every month. I was just there this past Saturday & they were indeed open.
