Lower Rochester Nevada Townsite - Ghost town
Just below Rochester. Near where I found a gold nugget. Lower and upper Rochester and Rochester Heights were established in 1913 at they lasted until about 1940. Apparently the folks that settled the area were from Rochester NY thus the name. In 1913 the Rochester Canyon had a population of about 2,000. Post office closed in 1926. Gold and silver were mined here. Upper Rochester is buried under tailing piles.
