Bedrock Colorado Townsite - Ghost town

Although the area was inhabited in 1881, the town of Bedrock was not established until 1883.  Now just a sleepy town along side the road.  The Bedrock  Post Office opened on November 8, 1883. The post office is still going strong.  Just check the photo. Rumor has it that the town's general store and post office were originally built on solid rock, hence the name. The town once had 500 people, two saloons and two hotels.

In 1883 a state senator decided to start a cattle company in the area. Eventually he purchased 1,600 acres and built an impressive home that soon became a stopping place for travelers.
