Empire Colorado Ghost town

Photos taken September 2004

The picture of the Peck house illustrates what a combination stage stop and hotel looked like in 1862 when it was built.  There is also the story of the mysterious white girl that traveled with the Ute Indians. She apparently told a miner where to locate the nuggets she had shown to them. The miner got lost and never found the gold.

For several years the federal Indian agents used this location to distribute annual annuities of cattle, flour and blankets to the Ute Indians. Maybe that is why Redman Hall is still standing. See if you can find the picture of the naked snowboarder. This is also the site of the “great mud bog adventure”.
