Cochise AZ  Ghost Town

Photos Courtesy Mike Sinnwell March 2011

This was an early water and fuel stop for the Southern Pacific Railroad in the 1880’s. The Cochise Hotel was built in 1882 to provide the train crews with a place to stay.  Mainly a ranching and supply point for the area it grew to about 3,000 residents. The railroads also helped with the growth by building spurs to nearby area towns. A post office was opened in 1896 and I believe it is still open. As is the school.

I was looking for that perfect spot to take a photo when the trains whistle reminded me that I should move. Danger lurks when you forget to use your hearing aids.
