Como Colorado Townsite - Ghost town

Photos courtesy of Joan Sinnwell May 2005

These pictures were taken in May of 2005. They show some of the towns houses, cabins, hotel, merchant's stores and a narrow gauge railroad roundhouse. Also included are the Catholic church and the schoolhouse.  Some of the photos were taken in 2012 by me while I was working on a preservation project in Como. You can see scaffolding etc around some of the buildings.

This is a ghost town you can see along highway 285. A road leads out of town to take you over Boreas pass and into Breckenridge. The road you travel over Boreas Pass actually follows the old railroad grade. The coal mines in the area made it an ideal spot for the Denver, South Park and the Pacific railroad to built a roundhouse. Supposedly the Italian coal miners named the town after Lake Como in Italy.

If you are speeding down 285 stop in Como and check out the roundhouse, hotel and depot as they are in the process of restoration/preservation.
