Pearl Colorado Townsite - Ghost town
Photos courtesy of Mike Sinnwell 2005
One of those out of the way but yet easy to get to Ghost towns. Copper mining was done nearby and the smoke stack you see was the site of the copper smelter. I suspect that the town may have gotten the name Pearl from the postmistress, one Pearl Wheeler. That is just a guess on my part about the name but it does sound reasonable. All private property today but easy to see from the road. Most of the buildings have been turned into ranch buildings and/or summer homes.
A viewer writes - Thursday, September 27, 2012 -- Greetings to all who find interest and appreciate those places that once thrived in the history of America but have since been abandoned, or mostly abandoned by our evolving society. Does anybody have a source for reading about the history of Pearl, CO ? Other than this site, I have found some recent (less than 10 years old) photos of the town site and what remains of the copper smelter site.
If anybody wants some photos of a particular location in Colorado and can't find them elsewhere, I am an intrepid adventurer and would look forward to the adventure. R/ Bob r_hobart45@hotmail.com
Rocky Replies - The best reference I found was in Kenneth Jessen's book. Ghost Towns Colorado Style Volume one.
